Donchan Park set to be a new visitor attraction in Vientiane

City residents and visitors can look forward to enjoying a new public space near the Mekong River now that construction of the Donchan Park riverside development project is underway.
Work commenced on November 17 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The project is one of the city’s urban enhancement initiatives and is administered by Intervia Real Estate Management Sole Co., Ltd., according to Donchan Park authorities.
The park will stretch from the Chao Anouvong statue to the rear of the Don Chan Palace hotel, covering 31,500 square metres along the riverbank.
The development will serve as a multifunctional venue designed to support tourism, recreation, and community activities while providing a new scenic viewpoint over the Mekong.
It will provide dedicated spaces for exercise, cultural events, exhibitions, and leisure activities, as well as parking facilities.
The aim is to create an accessible riverside environment that will enhance local residents’ quality of life and offer a new attraction for both Lao and foreign tourists.
Beyond its role as a leisure destination, the park is expected to stimulate local business activity by generating revenue streams for small and medium-sized enterprises, creating jobs, and providing a venue for exhibitions and festivals.
City authorities believe the development will contribute meaningfully to Vientiane’s economic growth and help position the capital as a more vibrant and visitor-friendly city.
With construction now underway on what was recently wasteland, residents can look forward to a revitalised riverfront that blends natural beauty with new opportunities for recreation, culture, and commerce.
