Lao leaders welcome foreign dignitaries on 50th anniversary


Lao leaders warmly received senior Cambodian and Russian delegations, reinforcing friendship and cooperation during the 50th founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic this week.
Following the grand celebration marking the 50th Lao National Day on Tuesday morning, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, welcomed the Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, and a high-level Cambodian delegation at the Party Central Office. Their visit coincided with the anniversary celebrations in Vientiane.
Mr Thongloun expressed sincere gratitude to the Cambodian delegation for their support and participation, highlighting the long-standing friendship, solidarity and close cooperation between Laos and Cambodia. Such visits strengthen the bonds between the two parties, states and peoples, he said.
Samdech Tea Banh congratulated Laos on 50 years of progress and praised the success of the anniversary celebration and the wide-ranging cooperation between the two countries.
President Thongloun conveyed greetings to King Norodom Sihamoni and senior Cambodian leaders, reflecting the enduring friendship between the two countries.
The two sides recalled their pivotal support for each other during the long struggle for national liberation and also in current development efforts.
They also highlighted ongoing cooperation under high-level agreements, including those based on outcomes from the 15th Summit of the two Parties and the Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia trilateral leaders’ meeting.
On the same day, the President of the Lao Front for National Development, Mr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, received the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Mr Nikolay Zhuravlev, and his delegation.
Mr Sinlavong thanked the Russian delegation for sharing in the anniversary events and for Russia’s long-standing support, which continues to strengthen Laos-Russia ties, expressing appreciation for Russia’s assistance in various sectors over the years.
Mr Zhuravlev expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted Russia’s willingness to expand cooperation in education, tourism and services, for the benefit of both nations.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee, Mr To Lam, made a state visit to Laos to participate in the National Day celebrations.
Also in attendance was a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr Wang Huning, and Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba and Director of of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Ms Marta Ayala, reflecting strong regional solidarity and international support for Laos’ landmark anniversary.
