Laos strengthens sustainable product development through public–private collaboration

Efforts to advance Lao product development with a focus on sustainability, food security, and export potential took a significant step forward last week as the Ministry of Industry and Commerce partnered with PTT Lao Limited to enhance cooperation between the government and the private sector.
The high-level discussion, chaired by Minister of Industry and Commerce Malaythong Kommasith, brought together representatives from the Thai Embassy, relevant government ministries, and private sector stakeholders.

The event aimed to encourage business innovation while offering a platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among Lao enterprises.
Participants examined key challenges facing the development of Lao products from production capacity and quality standards to market access and exchanged strategies for strengthening competitiveness both domestically and internationally.
They also reviewed successful community-based models, including the Thaidet project, which supports local producers and illustrates the potential of grassroots initiatives in elevating Lao goods.
A major highlight of the event was the signing of a cooperation agreement between PTT (Lao) Limited and Lao House, a local orange juice producer, to supply products to Amazon Coffee shops, marking a significant step in bringing Lao goods to broader regional markets.
In addition, participants heard inspiring presentations by successful entrepreneurs, including stories of businesses growing from small-scale vegetable farming to listing on the stock market.
Experts shared practical insights on innovation, sustainability, and business resilience, providing actionable guidance for emerging Lao enterprises.
Organisers said events like this play a crucial role in fostering an entrepreneurial culture, supporting local businesses, and creating sustainable economic opportunities that can help Lao products thrive both domestically and internationally.
