Luang Prabang Power lights up artisans’ future with Hinghoi Studio launch

The rich cultural heritage of Luang Prabang is receiving a vital boost with the launch of the Hinghoi Studio, a new creative learning centre established by Luang Prabang Power Company Limited (LPCL), the developer of the Luang Prabang Hydroelectric Power Project.
Designed to empower local communities, the studio provides a dedicated space to develop craft skills, promote income generation, and enhance artisanal capabilities for residents surrounding the project area. The company’s initiative also offers foundational skills that can support future career pathways for children and young people.
The opening ceremony, held recently at the studio, was presided over by the Chairman of the Executive Board of CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited, Mr Plew Trivisvavet, and Managing Director of Luang Prabang Power Company Limited, Mr Thanawat Trivisvavet.
Local dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Luang Prabang province, Mr Bounleua Sinxayvoravong, were also in attendance.
Mr Thanawat affirmed the company’s strong commitment to sustainable social and economic development under its CSR Strategy Framework for 2022-2026.
“Through the One Power Plant, One Product (OPOP) initiative, Luang Prabang Power aims to promote innovation and create new livelihood opportunities for local communities,” he said.
Hinghoi Studio functions as a creative hub, offering training in various craft skills, including sewing, design, machine operation, embroidery, and traditional textile weaving. The programme, supported by LPCL, aims to integrate traditional Lao artistry with contemporary designs, ensuring these skills remain relevant while actively helping to preserve and advance Luang Prabang’s cultural heritage.
Continued practice and cultivation of these skills is crucial, as traditional Lao weaving motifs have been inscribed by UNESCO as a form of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Last month, the studio hosted hands-on workshops on basic sewing, guided by instructors from the Luang Prabang Vocational Technical College. Participants created practical, high-quality items, with successful attendees receiving certificates to support their future career opportunities.
Luang Prabang Power Company Limited remains dedicated to supporting the preservation of the World Heritage City by promoting traditional Lao handicrafts and the continued practice of local wisdom and customs.
In partnership with the Luang Prabang Vocational Technical College, the company is ensuring cultural heritage continues to thrive alongside sustainable community development.
