Luang Prabang named among Asia’s most beautiful cities in 2026 ranking
The UNESCO-listed old quarter of Luang Prabang has once again captured international attention after being ranked among Asia’s most beautiful destinations in the 2026 list released by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
The magazine placed Luang Prabang eighth, highlighting its well-preserved heritage, tranquil atmosphere and the timeless charm of its setting along the Mekong River.

The list was topped by Busan, followed by Chiang Mai and Hanoi. Other cities featured included Hong Kong, Istanbul, Jaipur and Kyoto. The list was rounded out by Shanghai and Singapore.
Luang Prabang was cited for its blend of ancient temples, French colonial architecture and serene natural landscapes. This offers visitors an experience that feels both authentic and untouched by time, the magazine said.
Since being inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, Luang Prabang has consistently featured in global travel rankings. It was named among the world’s best small cities by Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards and has also been singled out for praise by TripAdvisor and National Geographic.
Luang Prabang’s growing popularity reinforces it as a leading travel destination in Southeast Asia, as Laos continues to promote sustainable tourism and heritage conservation.
The town’s success can be attributed to the balance of rapid modern development with the preservation of centuries-old traditions—an area where Luang Prabang continues to shine.
