Lao, Chinese students build friendships through school visits in Yunnan

Lao and Chinese students strengthened cultural understanding and built new friendships during school visits and shared activities that took place in Kunming on March 23.
A Lao group led by the Ministry of Education and Sports, headed by the Deputy Director General of the Education Department, Dr Houmphanh Keo Ounkham, included more than 30 students from three schools in Laos—two secondary schools in Vientiane and one in Luang Prabang.

The group visited two schools in Kunming, where Lao and Chinese students engaged in interactive activities. The visits were an opportunity for both sides to share experiences and learn about each other’s education systems.
Lao students delivered presentations introducing tourism in Laos to Chinese teachers and students. They highlighted cultural traditions, including the alms-giving ceremony, and talked about popular destinations in Luang Prabang such as the Kuang Si waterfall.
In the evening, Lao students staged a performance showcasing the country’s traditions and artistic identity.
The day’s activities also included a meeting between Lao and Chinese delegates, providing a platform for discussion and further cooperation in education.
Dr Houmphanh said the programme was organised to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and China, as well as Laos–China Friendship Year.
“This activity has brought students closer together. We sincerely hope this will not be the last, and that more shared activities between Laos and China will take place in the future,” he added.
The programme runs from March 23 to 30 in Yunnan province, involving Kunming, Dali and Lijiang. The schedule includes school visits, cultural and other shared activities, meetings between delegates, visits to cultural and historical sites, and a concert featuring 14 student performances.
