Dr Sonexay Siphandone was re-elected as Prime Minister.
The holders of other top posts were also announced, including the deputy prime ministers and heads of major state oversight and judicial bodies, namely the President of the Supreme People’s Court, the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the President of the State Audit Authority, and the President of the State Inspection Authority.
These roles are essential for strengthening governance, justice, and institutional oversight, ensuring that the nation’s top institutions operate effectively and transparently.
In his acceptance remarks, President Thongloun pledged to serve the nation with loyalty and integrity.
“I accept this high and honourable duty with pride and will perform my duties under our revered national flag with my life,” he said, vowing to uphold the Constitution and serve the multi-ethnic Lao people with dedication.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the resolutions adopted at the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party’s 12th Congress.
These aim to strengthen governance through strict adherence to the Constitution and the rule of law, foster sustainable socio-economic growth, expand rural development, tackle societal challenges, and maintain a foreign policy based on peace, independence, friendship, and cooperation.
President Thongloun called on all Lao citizens, including those living in other countries, to unite in supporting the development and protection of Laos.
The inaugural session of the 10th National Assembly is taking place from March 23-27, marking the formal start of the 10th Legislature and setting the tone for the nation’s leadership and policy decisions over the next five years.
The National Assembly, the highest organ of state power, is tasked with adopting laws, approving national socio-economic development plans, and overseeing the government’s performance.
The new legislative body is expected to prioritise economic recovery, fiscal stability, and structural reforms, as Laos continues on the path to graduation from Least Developed Country status and closer regional integration.
President Thongloun concluded his address by calling for unity and patriotism, urging all sectors of society to contribute to nation-building and the safeguarding of Laos, with the goal of creating a country that is prosperous, strong, and harmonious.
