Addressing the opening of the biennial summit, which was chaired by Vietnam Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Wednesday, Dr Sonexay said Laos’ commitment to green growth is a guideline for the country’s socio-economic development and implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Dr Sonexay, who attended the summit as the guest of the chair, highlighted the action being taken by the Lao government to implement its green growth strategy and related programmes, in line with the national socio-economic development plan, the Lao Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Prime Minister called for joint efforts by development partners and the international community to intensify cooperation and increase support to narrow the development gap along with technology and innovation transfers to drive development.
He pledged that Laos will continue to work with countries and development partners to realise the SDGs.
Dr Sonexay later joined more than 200 participants attending the high-level talks chaired by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chinh.
Prime Minister Chinh underscored the need for multilateral cooperation to address global threats, including climate change, pandemics and environmental degradation, according to Vietnam News.
“No single country can resolve these issues alone,” he said. “The transition to a green and sustainable economy is inevitable. It cannot be delayed.”
Founded in 2018, P4G, or Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030, is a global initiative focused on accelerating green and inclusive growth through innovative public-private partnerships. Its mission is to mobilise finance and technical support for early-stage enterprises working on climate solutions, especially in the areas of food, water and energy systems, to help countries transition toward net-zero economies.
The P4G comprises 12 members, though Laos is not among them.
