VP inspects upgrade of Laos-Thai border crossing in Vientiane province

A border checkpoint in Vang village, Muen district, Vientiane province is undergoing an upgrade to a formal international border crossing with Thailand.
Vice President of the Lao PDR Dr Bounthong Chitmany and his delegation visited the site on Monday to inspect progress, where they were welcomed by the Governor of Vientiane province, Mr Khamphanh Sitthidampha, and other provincial authorities.
The Deputy Governor of Vientiane province, Mr Daoheuang Nanthavong, said the upgrade of facilities at the border began in March 2023.
So far, progress has been made on 10 components of the construction project, equalling 75 percent of the 15 components. This includes clearing a 10.8-hectare site at the border crossing, improving passenger accommodation buildings, the customs office, the construction office, and improvements to other facilities.
Dr Bounthong instructed provincial authorities to carry out all the necessary work to upgrade the border crossing and to procure the requisite personnel and equipment needed for the efficient operation of customs and immigration offices.
He also advised deploying security forces in the border area for peacekeeping purposes and to prevent the entry into Laos of ill-intentioned individuals seeking to cause unrest.
