China’s Guangxi University strengthens alumni ties in Laos
Guangxi University in China has established an alumni association in Laos to strengthen ties with foreign graduates, fostering professional networks and cultural exchange.
The association aims to bring together Lao graduates of the university, creating a platform for professional networking, knowledge sharing, and mutual support.
It is expected to serve as a bridge linking alumni with academic institutions, businesses, and development initiatives in both countries.
The opening ceremony of the alumni association in Vientiane last week was attended by former Editor-in-Chief of the Pasaxon newspaper, Mr Vansay Tavinyan.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President of Guangxi University, Gao Xingyu, said that over the past 60 years, leaders of Laos and China had engaged in regular exchanges alongside cooperation between government agencies and other organisations.
This served to boost relations between China, Laos, and neighbouring countries through numerous consultations aimed at mutual benefit, he added.
Guangxi University has 26 faculties, covering 11 fields of education, and offers undergraduate, master's and doctorate degrees, specialising in engineering and chemistry.
The university has partnerships with 202 universities and institutions in 26 in China and has been attended by more than 27,000 foreign students from 87 countries, including Laos.
The university has added courses in Lao language in order to equip personnel for employment in the burgeoning economic, trade and cultural sectors involving Laos and China.
Many alumni have worked, studied and lived in Laos, becoming an important force in promoting Laos-China exchanges, Mr Gao said.
“We will use the new association in Laos as a bridge to unite, connect, help each other, and develop,” he added.
