State-private venture to establish agro-forestry exhibition hub
A state-private partnership will create a horticulture and agroforestry market and exhibition centre in Vientiane, dedicated to horticulture varieties, animal breeds, tree seeds and saplings, and agro-forestry products, including those produced by alternative businesses.
The National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) is partnering with IndusTek Co., Ltd. to build the market and exhibition centre on a 4.5-hectare site.
A contract was signed on Monday to formalise the partnership, with Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr Chanthakhone Boualaphanh, attending as a witness.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Acting Director of NAFRI, Dr Phetmanyseng Xangxayasane, said the production and sale of agricultural goods remains a top priority for the government.
Government policies have created favourable conditions for agricultural development, attracting both domestic and foreign investment, he said.
Particular focus is being placed on high-yield, high-quality agricultural and forestry products that are closely linked to market demand.
IndusTek Co., Ltd. will invest in development of the site, building the new facilities at the fisheries research centre in Chansavang village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane.
The project will have a total contractual cooperation period of 27 years and can be extended once.
Managing Director of IndusTek Co., Ltd., Mr Phonesavanh Xaypanya, said the main goal of the project is to establish an agricultural product exhibition centre, which will be integrated with green tourism development and an animal breeding facility, with plans to evolve into a zoo in the future.
As part of the partnership, IndusTek Co., Ltd. will provide funding, facilitate technical and equipment exchanges, and purchase products from the centre.
The company has committed to completing land clearance for construction of the facilities within two years.
In addition, it will be responsible for identifying markets for product distribution, managing personnel, and offering training programmes for farmers, technicians, and government officials to enhance capacity and strengthen implementation.
The initiative marks a significant step forward in strengthening collaboration between the state and private sectors to promote agricultural innovation, market access, and sustainability.
The centre is expected to serve as a hub for farmers, entrepreneurs, and researchers, supporting agricultural development and value-added production.
By integrating research, commerce, and demonstration areas, the project aims to boost the visibility and viability of Lao agricultural products in both domestic and regional markets.
