Laos records inflation rate of 11.1 percent for April
The inflation rate for April was 11.1 percent, a marginal decrease from the 11.2 percent recorded in March, according to the Lao Statistics Bureau’s Inflation Report for the previous month.
Among the commodity categories, the highest year-on-year inflation increases were observed in housing, water supply, electricity and cooking fuel, which rose by 25.2 percent; healthcare and pharmaceuticals, which increased by 20.5 percent; household goods, up by 18.2 percent; education, which saw an increase of 16.5 percent; restaurants and hotels, which rose by 15.5 percent; and alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which increased by 14 percent.
When comparing price changes between April and March, the overall cost of goods and services increased by 1.6 percent.
The food and non-alcoholic beverages category saw the most significant monthly rise, increasing by 2.3 percent.
Within this category, fresh vegetable prices rose by 7.5 percent, pork prices by 5.3 percent, and rice prices by 1.2 percent.
Healthcare and pharmaceuticals also rose by 1.6 percent, with a notable 5.1 percent increase in hospital and clinic services, and a 1.3 percent rise in pharmaceutical prices.
The clothing and footwear category recorded a 1.6 percent increase, with the prices of children’s clothing up by 2.4 percent and women’s clothing by 2.3 percent.
