Laos, Kyrgyzstan pledge stronger ties

The governments of Laos and Kyrgyzstan have pledged to further strengthen their cooperation and longstanding friendship during a meeting between Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and the Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Mr Anwar Anarbaev, in Vientiane.
The meeting took place on Monday at the Prime Minister’s Office during Mr Anarbaev’s working visit to Laos. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation within bilateral and multilateral frameworks, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone welcomed Mr Anarbaev, who is the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Laos and is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He expressed appreciation for the continued support and assistance provided by the government and people of Kyrgyzstan to Laos over past years.
He noted that during the former Soviet Union era, Kyrgyzstan was among the republics that supported human resource development in Laos, helping to strengthen the foundation of relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister conveyed his warm regards to Kyrgyz Prime Minister Mr Adylbek Kasymaliev and expressed confidence that cooperation between Laos and Kyrgyzstan would continue to expand in the years ahead.
Mr Anarbaev thanked the Lao government for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s readiness to continue working closely with Laos to further deepen friendship and cooperation.
He conveyed greetings from Kyrgyz President Mr Sadyr Japarov to President Thongloun Sisoulith, as well as greetings from the Kyrgyz Prime Minister to Dr Sonexay, while extending an invitation for the Lao Prime Minister to visit Kyrgyzstan at a mutually convenient time.
The two sides said they highly valued the longstanding traditional relations and close cooperation between their two nations. They praised the agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports, which came into effect in 2017, describing it as a reflection of continued mutual support and cooperation.
Laos and Kyrgyzstan established diplomatic relations on July 13, 1995, and in 2025 celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties through an exchange of congratulatory messages reflecting the close friendship between the two nations.
