Lao migrant workers to send money home safely, instantly via APB, Western Union services
The Agricultural Promotion Bank Co Ltd (APB Bank) officially partnered with Western Union to transform the way money is remitted to Laos.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties was signed in Vientiane on February 5, 2026, by the CEO of APB Bank, Mr Philavanh Sophabmixay, and Western Union’s Regional Director, Mr Atish Shrestha.
APB Bank is proud to be the very first bank in Laos to offer this innovative service, making it the only bank in the country that allows families in Laos to receive money via Western Union right from the comfort of their own hands - without needing to leave home.
The objectives of this new collaboration include:
Direct to Bank Account: In strict compliance with the Bank of the Lao PDR’s regulations (Announcement No 01/BOL), all foreign currency payouts will be safely deposited directly into bank accounts, as cash disbursements are prohibited.
Mobile Banking Integration: Users can pull funds directly into their APB account using the mobile banking application, Meporm.
Secure API Connectivity: A secure API integration between APB and Western Union ensures that all incoming remittance transactions are smoothly verified and processed.
Supporting Our Nation: This initiative supports the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MoLSW) by strengthening national foreign currency inflows and enhancing financial inclusion.
Sending support to your loved ones has never been easier, safer or more integrated into your daily banking. Stay tuned for more updates on when the service goes live!
