Faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos and K-Lab Vientiane Host Roundtable to Enhance Internship Programs

The Faculty of Engineering at the National University of Laos (NUOL), in collaboration with K-Lab Vientiane, hosted a strategic roundtable meeting on May 14 to explore ways to enhance student internship programs through stronger partnerships with local companies.
The event aimed to bridge the gap between academic training and real-world work experience, ensuring that internship programs provide tangible benefits for both students and employers.
In preparation for the roundtable, a comprehensive survey was conducted among participating companies to identify the most essential skills expected from student interns. The results, presented during the meeting, highlighted the top five technical competencies currently in demand in the industry.
Representatives from 36 local companies attended the session and emphasized that soft skills are just as vital as technical abilities. Participants highlighted the importance of professional etiquette, strong English communication skills, and consistent monitoring and support from the university throughout the internship period. There was widespread agreement that the current internship duration may be insufficient and that extending the period could lead to deeper learning and greater impact.
NUOL officials welcomed the feedback and expressed a strong commitment to improving internship oversight and considering a longer internship duration to better align with industry needs. K-Lab Vientiane reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with the university to provide technical training that equips students with practical, job-ready skills from the outset.
This roundtable represents a significant step toward building a more responsive, collaborative internship framework in Laos—one that aligns academic learning with labor market demands and better prepares students for successful careers.
