SOS Children’s Villages Laos hosts charity event to build better future for orphans, vulnerable children and children at risk of losing family care
SOS Children’s Villages Laos, under the guidance of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Management Committee of the organisation, organised a charity fundraising event on May 20 to support the care and upbringing of disadvantaged children within its programmes.
The event was honoured by the presence of the wife of the President and Honorary Chairman of the Management Committee of SOS Children’s Villages Laos, Mrs Naly Sisoulith, and the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and Chairman of the Management Committee of SOS Children’s Villages Laos, Mr Phosay Sayasone. The event was also attended by ministers, directors general of departments, directors, business leaders and representatives of the private sector.
The collective support and cooperation from all sectors on this occasion represented an important driving force in advancing child care under SOS Children’s Villages Laos.
Since its establishment in 1993, SOS Children’s Villages Laos has operated in six villages across the country – in Vientiane and the provinces of Luang Prabang, Xiengkhouang, Huaphanh (Xamneua), Savannakhet, and Champasak (Pakse) – providing family-based care for more than 700 children in a warm and safe environment.
In addition, the organisation has implemented several development projects, including:
• Skills 4 Work/Future Building Project (2023–2026)
• Youth Education Promotion Project (supported by SOS Norway, 2021–2025)
• Family Strengthening Project (2025–2027) in the three target districts of Sangthong, Xaythany and Naxaithong in Vientiane.
The purpose of this event was to raise funds for the care of children within the programmes. All proceeds will be used directly for food, education, healthcare, essential supplies and improving the overall quality of life of the children.
During the event, Mr Phosay Sayasone said: “Children are the future and the nation’s most valuable resource. If children today receive proper care and support, they will grow into quality citizens and become a key driving force in the country’s development.”
He further emphasised the importance of social responsibility and the participation of all sectors in strengthening child protection and support services, while ensuring the best interests and rights of children in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the policies of the Party and government regarding child protection and welfare in Laos.
