Standards as the guiding forceChina-Laos vocational education cooperation enters new stage of institutionalisation

Against the backdrop of the continuous and in-depth advancement of the China-Laos Community with a Shared Future, vocational education, as a key area of bilateral educational cooperation, has been playing an increasingly significant role in promoting people-to-people exchanges, supporting industrial development, and cultivating talents for the new era.
In recent years, multiple Lao vocational institutions and Chinese educational partners have actively responded to the Belt and Road Initiative, jointly advancing the internationalisation of vocational education and achieving tangible outcomes in areas such as joint standard development, resource sharing, and collaborative talent cultivation.
The Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos has established strategic coordination mechanisms with Chinese education authorities to ensure the smooth implementation of cooperative projects at the policy level. Through high-level exchanges and policy dialogue, both sides have steadily promoted the institutionalisation and standardisation of vocational education cooperation.
Since 2023, China and Laos have jointly implemented the "Lao National Vocational Standards Co-construction and Mutual Recognition" scheme, which has now advanced to its sixth phase. The project has attracted participation from over 100 Chinese institutions, contributing to the development of more than 200 occupational standards across sectors such as equipment manufacturing, energy and power, civil engineering, and e-commerce. A series of occupational standards, professional teaching standards, online course resources, and bilingual textbooks—integrating China's experience in vocational education development and tailored to the practical needs of Lao industries—has been successfully incorporated into Laos' national vocational education system. This marks a historic breakthrough from "0 to 1", injecting new momentum into the standardised development of vocational education in Laos.
This phase focuses on the joint development of occupational standards and the integration of professional teaching systems, marking the entry of China-Laos vocational education cooperation into a new stage of institutionalisation. --Source Wuhan Central Group
