Staff from the Lao-Korean Rural Development and Training Centre (LKRDTC) join 30 farmers from Borikhamxay province at the close of a six-day training course last month on wet-season maize production. The course was part of the Rural Development Project for northern and central Laos, supported by the government of the Republic of Korea through KOICA. Participants improved their skills in maize production with guidance from experienced agriculture officials from various ministries and the National University of Laos. The training also covered the integration of Korean’ Saemaul Undong principles with Laos’ Three-Builds devolution directive, the formation of groups and cooperatives, and participatory development planning. Practical sessions focused on wet-season maize cultivation techniques such as soil preparation, variety selection, planting, maintenance, pest and disease management, harvesting, post-harvest storage, and marketing strategies.
