Packets of amphetamine seized by police in Bokeo province on Monday.

Bokeo police seize 6 million amphetamine pills in latest drug bust

Police in Huayxai district, Bokeo province, on Monday intercepted a consignment of 6 million amphetamine pills found hidden in a pick-up truck passing through Huayxainoy village.
Officers from the district’s Police Command set up a checkpoint on a road running through the village, and stopped and searched the vehicle at around 5pm.
The search revealed 24 bags containing 6 million tablets weighing 672 kilograms.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
Specialised officers are partnering with other agencies in a concerted effort to stem the tide of drugs passing through Bokeo province and to bring drug traffickers to justice.
Bokeo is located within the Golden Triangle region and is a well-known transit point for the illegal shipment of narcotics. Provincial police are working with their counterparts in China, Thailand and Myanmar and other provinces of Laos to stamp out the drug trade in this area.
The government is deploying more resources in a bid to suppress drug abuse and trade while provincial police are beefing up efforts to clamp down on trafficking.
