Myanmar needs US$ 169.6 m to meet the humanitarian needs of children: UNICEF

The statement said Myanmar continues to face a severe humanitarian and human rights crisis, with conflict and violence escalating across the country, affecting children and their families and displacing more than 1.4 million people.
UNICEF says an estimated 17.6 million people, including 5.6 million children, are in need of humanitarian assistance as the ongoing political crisis is coupled with economic challenges.
Access to essential services such as healthcare, nutrition, water, hygiene and education is severely limited for children and their families, and the associated challenges threaten child survival, development and health, UNICEF said in a statement.
UNICEF’s humanitarian strategy focuses on communities, working with local and international partners and stakeholders to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance and ensure critical services reach children in need.
By 2023, one of UNICEF’s goals is to provide access to education for 750,000 children, including providing learning opportunities and individualised learning materials, according to a UNICEF statement.
Also, in 2023, Myanmar is among the 11 countries that need more international attention and support, according to the UNICEF.
The 11 countries that need more international attention and support in 2023 are South Sudan, Yemen, Haiti, Congo, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Myanmar, Palestine, Bangladesh, Syria and Kenya.
As Myanmar’s internal conflict deepens, there are about 5.6 million children in need of humanitarian assistance. Children’s rights are severely violated during armed conflict, attacks on schools and hospitals continue at alarming levels, and civil conflict undermines the provision of health services to children, including routine vaccinations, which could affect children’s health and well-being in the long term, UNICEF said.
