The Chinese General Consul to Laos in Luang Prabang province leads a ceremony to hand over a new building at the Confucius Institute at Souphanouvong University in Luang Prabang city. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Dr Sourioudong Sundara, teachers, Lao and Chinese government officials, and staff from the Paxason newspaper. The new representative of UNICEF to Laos, Mr Bilal Aurang Zeb Durrani (left), on Monday presents his credentials to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune. Mr Phoxay welcomed Mr Durrani, who comes from Pakistan and will contribute to Laos’ social and economic development plans in the fields of education, health, nutrition, human rights, strengthening the role of women and young people in national development, and protecting children from neglect and disease. Funding provided by UNICEF for development projects in Laos from 2022 to 2026 amounts to US$100 million. |

The centre aims to promote healthy living among locals and expatriates, addressing the needs of the 70-80 percent of the population who are healthy but may neglect their well-being. Services include annual health check-ups, hormone balance assessments, and nutrition evaluations. Staff will collaborate with patients to create personalised treatment plans, focusing on nutrition, exercise, and vitamin therapies. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of Luckxay Hospital, Dr Bounmy Somsamouth said the Wellness Centre is a holistic health centre operated by Luckxay Hospital. The hospital’s main services comprise the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases so that symptoms do not spread to other parts of the body, and restoring functions that have been lost to normality or close to normality. | |
