Lao govt awards Phu Bia Mining at Mining Sector Conference

Phu Bia Mining was awarded the “2021 Best Mining Performance Certificate of Excellence” from the Ministry of Energy and Mines earlier this month.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr Thongphat Inthavong, presented the certificate to Phu Bia Mining Senior Manager External Affairs, Manilath Arounlangsy, at the annual Mining Sector Conference held in Vientiane recently.

Conference participants visit the Company’s display booth to learn more about Phu Bia Mining’s Operations in Xaysomboun province.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines assesses mining companies in Laos on seven best practice principles, namely legal compliance, reporting obligations, social performance, local employment and human resource development, health and safety, social and environmental impact management, and mine closure planning.
Phu Bia Mining excelled, achieving an ‘A’ across all principles.
On behalf of PanAust – Phu Bia Mining’s parent company - Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Darling Zheng, outlined PanAust’s commitment to long-term sustainable development across its Operations.
Mr Zheng said “We are honoured to receive this award from the government of Laos. I would like to sincerely thank the Ministry of Energy and Mines for its recognition of Phu Bia Mining’s international best practice programmes.”
“Over the past 14 years, we have been committed to partnering with national and provincial governments to improve socio-economic standards. Our deliberate efforts have led to international acknowledgment as a leading mining company within the Asia region,” Mr Zheng said.
Phu Bia Mining Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, reiterated the Company’s efforts, saying “Our programmes are far-reaching. They range from upskilling our people to protecting the environment. As a result, we can support society in times of need, improving community livelihoods.”
“We commit to furthering our strong presence in the resources sector. We are financially and technically able to continue building prosperity for the government and the people of Laos,” Mr Bounnaphol said.
During the meeting, Phu Bia Mining also showcased its sustainable community programmes in Xaysomboun province, enabling participants to learn more about its world-class operations.
