Li Qiang delivers the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 6th China International Import Expo and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum on Sunday.

China expo boosts market accessibility, win-win cooperation

Shanghai, China: China is now bolstering opportunities for trade partners to access its enormous market segment for win-win cooperation, through the 6th China International Import Expo taking place here from November 5-10.
The expo was first held in 2018. Aimed at leveraging the strengths of China’s enormous market, it was designed as a platform to promote international procurement, investment, people-to-people links, and open cooperation.
The opening ceremony on Sunday was attended by foreign dignitaries including heads of state and representatives of international trade bodies.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee and President, Xi Jinping, sent a letter to the expo to deliver the key message that China will always be an important opportunity for global development.
“The China International Import Expo will better serve as a window for fostering a new development pattern that creates new opportunities for the world through China’s further development, and as a platform of high-standard opening-up that allows China’s enormous market to be shared by the world,” President Xi said in the letter.
He also said China would robustly advance high-standard opening-up and continue to make economic globalisation more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all. He hoped the expo would play a greater role in providing shared international public goods and services that facilitate an open world economy and enable the world to benefit from win-win cooperation.
In his keynote remarks at the opening ceremony, Chinese Premier Li Qiang highlighted the achievements of the world-class expo in past years, saying that China needs to sustain beneficial opportunities and develop more open-minded cooperation with international partners in order to create more flexible forms of cooperation.
“With a total population of 1.4 billion people, we are ready to share a better and bigger demand of market accessibility in China and it is also fully and extensively promoting an international consensus to make a concrete benefit for a shared future of mankind,” Premier Li said.
It is expected that the value of imports of goods and services will reach US$17 trillion in cumulative terms in the next five years, he added.
According to figures, more than 3,400 exhibitors and 394,000 professional visitors registered for the expo, with participants coming from 154 countries, regions and international organisations, including least developed, developing and developed nations.
