International School of Laos claims huge success with 6th Streetball Tournament

The International School of Laos (ISL) held its 6th Streetball Tournament on November 12 and 13, making it the sixth basketball event after the competition had to be postponed twice because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lao army officials welcome their Russian counterparts for talks to discuss assistance for UXO clearance in Laos.

The Streetball Tournament is one of the most anticipated sports events for most students.
In the past the tournament was limited to 70 teams from schools in Laos, but this year, as the event came back from a two-year hiatus, the 6th Streetball Tournament attracted 90 teams, making the competition a huge success.
ISL has been integrating sports into the life of its students for many years now and aims to promote sports amongst the maximum number of students at various schools, in the belief that sports and related activities help boost confidence, strengthen companionship, and foster teamwork amongst the youth of today.
The school’s Principal, Mr Ulvi Shirinov, said “Sports have been made mandatory here at ISL. Each year we organise this tournament, not only to test students’ talent but also to boost their morale and passion.”
Senior Advisor to the school, Mr Praseuth Sayamongkhonh, said “There weren’t many basketball courts around when we initiated this tournament, but now we have seen many in other schools. Consequently, students are now more keen on learning and participating.”
The International School of Laos extends its gratitude to all who supported and made the 6th Streetball Tournament possible, especially to the 90 teams from across Vientiane and provinces such as Champassak and Luang Prabang.
Mr Shirinov said “I would like to say that this basketball tournament is a healthy competition. Each team might have won or lost, but they always learn lessons in either situation. It’s their effort and participation that matter most, and winning or losing is just a part of the game. Again, a sincere thank you to everyone for participating in this tremendous event.”
