The Lao Women’s Training Centre in Vientiane receives 20 sewing machines and kits for use by 20 women and other equipment for use in the Centre’s Cotton and Silk Division. The supplies were donated by the government of Turkiye and the handover of the items was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to Laos, Mr Orhan Isik, and President of the Lao Women's Union, Mrs Aly Vongnorbountham. |
The Komaen Tea Promotion Association last month displays tea products at the “Tea of the World” contest in Paris, France, organised by the Agency for Valuation of Agricultural Products. Komaen green tea was praised by the jury and achieved a “Grand Slam” rating in the “sun dried green tea” category, with some of its samples winning gold, silver and bronze medals and the “gourmet” distinction, while competing with world-class quality teas from other countries in this category. These results confirm the exceptional quality of Komaen tea and draws the attention of world tea growers while putting Laos firmly on the map of specialty tea production. |

Deputy Director of the Rural Development Department, Ms Veomany Thepphavong, presents certificates to trainees following a five-day course titled “Capacity building for women leaders of the project for establishment of action plans for rural income generation in northern and central regions of Laos’’. The course took place at the Laos-Korea Rural Development Training Centre in Vientiane from November 27 to December 1 with support from the government of the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS). Participants learnt about the project’s activities and progress, health care and nutrition, crop harvesting and processing, creating a community-based development plan, microfinance management, gender roles, the establishment of groups and cooperatives, and community leadership. Trainees also made visits to successful projects in Aekxang village in Phonhong district, Vientiane province. |
Sikerd Primary School in Naxaithong district, Vientiane, holds a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the provision of grants by Germany’s Angels for Children Foundation. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has funded the construction of school buildings and other facilities through grants totalling more than US$3.5 million. The ceremony was attended by the Vice Governor of Naxaithong district, Mr Bounsou Phaviset; the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Laos, Mrs Annette Knobloch; Chairman of the Angels for Children Foundation, Mr Christian Engel, guests, teachers and students. |
