Lancang-Mekong nations launch industry, education alliance

Officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), six vocational colleges from Thailand and Cambodia, the National Technical Training Institute in Cambodia, and Cambodia’s Logistics and Supply Chain Business Association gathered for the launch of the Lancang-Mekong Alliance of Industry and Education (LMAIE) and Summit in Vientiane.

 

Summit welcome speeches were delivered by the Executive Vice Chairman of LNCCI, Mr Daovone Phachanthavong, and the Director General of the Technical and Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr Nouphanh Ousta, who praised the event and said the Department would fully support the Lancang-Mekong Alliance of Industry and Education.
He also thanked the Lanmekong China  Education Training Promotion Association (LCETPA) and the LNCCI Chongqing representative office for their hard work in setting up and operating the Alliance in the later stages.
Participants discussed ways to enhance collaboration between industries and educational institutions in the Lancang-Mekong region, including the National University of Laos (NUOL), Cambodia NTTI, Second Bureau Company in Laos of China Railway Engineering Corp (CREC), Thailand Technical Education Group, Laos National Railway Group (LNR), Laos Pakpasak Technical College, ICT Business Association in Laos, LCETPA, Lao-German Technical College, LOSCBA in Cambodia, and KIC College in Thailand.
Executive Deputy Secretary General of the LNCCI, Mr Manitto Phomphothi, reviewed the Community of Lancang-Mekong Industry and Education, which was launched in China in 2022.
It was agreed that the daily work of the Lancang-Mekong Alliance of Industry and Education will be the responsibility of LCETPA and the LNCCI Chongqing representative office.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Manothong Vongsay fully support this Alliance and together with other leaders witnessed the launch of the LMAIE, which was the high point of the event.
Chinese, Lao and Thai officials and Chinese, Lao and Cambodian officials signed agreements on collaboration between industry-related educational institutions.
It is expected that the Alliance will deliver fruitful results and make strong contributions to the economic development of Laos and its surrounding Lancang-Mekong countries.
This event was the first international level industry and education Summit between Laos, China, Thailand and Cambodia since the onset of the Covid pandemic in 2020.
It offered many opportunities for face to face communication, with those present saying they would actively participate in the LMAIE to develop the industry and education community.
It is believed that Lancang-Mekong integration of industry and education, through the LMAIE, will play an extremely important role in creating bridges, cultivating talents to meet the needs of industry and technological innovation, and driving regional economic development and prosperity.
