Fixed Plant Maintenance teams at Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operations completed Chevron’s Best in Class assessment in Xaysomboun province.

Phu Bia Mining sets new Chevron Best in Class assessment record

PanAust’s Phu Bia Mining contract area in Xaysomboun province, Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operations, set outstanding new Chevron’s Best in Class assessment records for reliability-based lubrication practices.
In February and March, a team from Chevron Thailand was on site to assess the reliability-based lubrication practices at the Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai’s Fixed Plant Maintenance workshops.
In the latest assessment, the Fixed Plant Maintenance teams achieved 98 percent at both operations. In comparison to the Company’s counterparts in the USA with a score of 68 percent, and Central Asia with a score of 92 percent, Phu Bia Mining really is top of the class.
Phu Bia Mining has undertaken Chevron’s lubrication assessment since 2015. In 2019, Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai both achieved a 5-star rating, scoring 95 percent and 97.6 percent.
From 2020 to 2022, no assessments were undertaken because of Covid-19 travel restrictions.
As part of Chevron’s Customer’s Value Guarantee (CVG) commitment, Phu Bia Mining participates in regular assessments to improve its lubrication maintenance practices.
Primarily, the audit ensures lubricants are not contaminated. This helps to maximise the life of the equipment, improve equipment availability, and save long-term equipment maintenance costs.
The Best in Class (BiC) assessment focuses on how current performance compares with best-in-class lubrication maintenance performance. Critical areas assessed at both operating sites include workshop lube storage, crusher, conveyors, grinding mills and agitator areas and water pumps.
PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, congratulated the employees for achieving new record results in the 2023 Chevron Best in Class assessment.
Mr Zheng said “I would like to thank our employees for their efforts to implement initiatives from storage to dispensing waste across our Operations in Laos.”
“The new record results mark an important milestone as we continue to excel with our focus on extending the life of equipment, lowering operating costs, and ultimately reducing our impacts on the surrounding environment.”
Phu Bia Mining Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, added “I am so proud of our employees who continue their efforts to practise lean methodology, safety, and other campaigns across our Operations. This is one of the excellent outcomes for our international best practice programmes in Laos.”
