Bangkok Terminal Logistics and Nationwide Trading donates equipment for the treatment of kidney disease

The National Red Cross Society of Laos has welcomed a donation of dialysis machines from the Bangkok Terminal Logistics Company Limited (BTL) and Nationwide Trading Petroleum Public Company (NTP) to assist Laos’ efforts to treat people with kidney disease.

Managing Director of BTL, Mr Borvornsint Tanthuwanit, senior officials from the Ministry of Health and guests gather with Dr Phouthone Muongpak.

The Managing Director of BTL, Mr Borvornsint Tanthuwanit, on Tuesday handed over the dialysis machines to the President of the Lao Red Cross, Associate Professor Dr Phouthone Muongpak, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Health and guests.
Mr Borvornsint said the money to purchase the machines by NTP came from friends of parents in Laos and their family and friends.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dr Phouthone said “I would like to thank BTL for its assistance and for providing valuable equipment to Laos as a contribution to saving lives through the use of dialysis machines. This will improve the availability of treatment for those suffering from kidney disease.”
He thanked the staff and administrators of BTL for their generous contribution, which he said would be of great benefit to the Lao Red Cross as part of its humanitarian work in Laos.

This support will save lives in local communities now and in the future, he added.
The donation of dialysis machines will enable lifesaving treatment and comes at a time when safe medical treatment for those living with kidney disease is urgently needed and patients face challenges in accessing services, Dr Phouthone said.
The machines will be installed in provincial hospitals with the greatest need and where dialysis capacity is limited.
Annually, more than 30,000 people in Laos die from non-communicable diseases, with kidney disease being one of the most common.
A 2020 survey by the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute of the Ministry of Health found that 1 in 5 people have raised blood pressure levels while 1 in 10 have raised blood sugar levels.
These are both warning signs for diabetes and kidney disease but most of these people are not receiving treatment.
Bangkok Terminal Logistics Company Limited (BTL) was established in 1985 under the name “Bangkok Terminal Services Company Limited” (BTS).
BTL is a full-service transportation company that deals with the transportation of goods.
The company is a pioneer in the transport of containerised goods through Thailand’s rail network.
In 1994, BTL was authorised by the Thai government to expand its business as an In-Transit authorised operator to Laos. Since then, BTL has distributed goods by land throughout Indochina, including to Vientiane, Thakhaek, Pakxe, Savannakhet, and Huayxay in Laos; Poi-pet and Khoh Khong in Cambodia; and Tachileik, Myawadee and Kawthaung in Myanmar.
