Phu Bia Mining completes new bypass road, boosts safety of local community

All of Phu Bia Mining (PBM) logistics and passenger transportation en route to the Natou barge and boat port between the Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai Operations will now use a bypass road without using the public road in Ban Nam Gnone, which will increase safety in nearby villages.

Phu Bia recently held a ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Ban Nam Gnone bypass, located at its Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation in Anouvong district, Xaysomboun province.
The event was attended by the Governor of Anouvong district, Mr Heuthor Phialuang, and district officials from related divisions such as Administrative, Public Works and Transport, and the Public Security Office.
Phu Bia invested US$178,000 in the construction of the 1.65-kilometre bypass, which is 11 metres wide. It runs from Phu Kham’s Mine Access gate at the Go line security area south towards the existing Light Industrial Area, crosses the Express Highway and exits to a public road.
PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about PanAust’s commitment to the safety of its local communities.
“Ban Nam Gnone is one of Phu Bia Mining’s host villages and the safety of the residents in the village is our number one priority,” he said.
“The new bypass enables Phu Bia Mining to continue all its logistics and transportation between the Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai Operations and will cease our vehicle interaction with village residents,” he added.
PBM Chairman, Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol, said “The bypass road is a sustainable route, enabling us to keep local communities safe and supporting the Company’s future logistics plans.”
