Phu Bia Mining hosts friendly football and safety awareness activities for local children

Phu Bia Mining, a leading mining company in Laos, recently conducted its inaugural Three Village Children’s Football Safety Championship matches to educate local children on the dangers of playing in operational areas adjacent to the Phu Kham Operations open pit while having fun with their friends.

Held at the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, the one-day friendly football and safety awareness activities welcomed 68 children and five primary school teachers from the villages of Nam Mo, Nam Gnone and Nam Chang in Xaysomboun province’s Anouvong district.
The children also visited Phu Kham’s mobile maintenance workshop and took part in driving simulation activities at the training centre, helping them understand how difficult it is for truck drivers to see anyone coming close to an operating vehicle.
PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Daling Zheng was pleased to share PanAust’s important safety lessons with the children.
Mr Zheng said “The activity was a great opportunity to get the local kids to our Operation to see a 777D Caterpillar truck up close and explain to them the dangers of coming into operational mining areas.”
“We wanted the kids to have fun playing football, but also to learn about why they should not play in operating areas of the mine site.”
PBM Chairman Mr Chanpheng Bounnaphol added “Our generous employees also donated towards the purchase of sporting equipment, uniforms, and trophies for the match, volunteered their time to act as chaperones, referees and coaches, and organised lunch for everyone involved.”
“Thank you to the teams from Phu Kham’s Mobile Maintenance and Mining, Community Relations, Transport, Risk Department (Loss Prevention, Safety, Medical, and FES), Site Services and the PKM Social Club.”
