Laos, Russia ink agreements on Party ties, education

Laos and Russia have signed agreements concerning inter-Party relations and cooperation in the field of education.
According to Russia’s TASS News Agency, the agreements were signed during a visit to Laos by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and leader of the ruling United Russia Party, Dmitry Medvedev, on May 23.
Medvedev and Laos’ President and Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, Thongloun Sisoulith, inked a joint declaration between the United Russia Party and the LPRP.

The United Russia Party and the LPRP also signed a protocol on closer cooperation in 2023-2025.
In addition, an agreement on cooperation was signed between the Russian Gertsen State Pedagogical University and the National University of Laos.
A Memorandum of Understanding relating to the study of the Russian language in Laos was also signed between Tomsk State University and Laos’ Ministry of Education and Sports.
According to the Paxaxon Newspaper, Laos-Russia relations continue from the Laos-former Soviet Union relations, in which the two countries provided support to each other.
The leadership of Laos highly appreciated the visit to Laos by the delegation from the United Russia Party, saying it was an important contribution to further strengthening and enhancing the friendly relations between Laos and Russia.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
They also discussed the direction of future cooperation with the aim of delivering real benefits to the people of the two countries.
Russia has expressed confidence that the Lao people will continue to achieve new and greater successes in the mission to protect and develop their country, making the nation even stronger.
