11 coronavirus patients remain in hospital

The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control says medical staff are continuing to monitor the health of 11 people who contracted Covid-19 and are currently in Mittaphab Hospital in Vientiane.
Eight of 19 people who were hospitalised with the virus have been discharged, and no new cases of the virus have been reported in Laos for 19 consecutive days.

The Standing Deputy Head of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, Dr Phouthone Muongpak, delivered the news at a press conference on Friday, saying medical staff still needed to observe the remaining 11 patients even though they have only mild symptoms.
“We have allowed the other eight patients to return home but they are required to self-quarantine and have limited contact with family members. They will need to be tested again for the virus after 14 days,” he said.
A total of 94 samples were tested for the coronavirus on Thursday but all the results were negative, he added.
Dr Phouthone called on everyone to continue to strictly comply with the Prime Minister’s Order detailing virus prevention and control measures, including the directive to stay at home to curb the spread of the disease.
Effective implementation of the national lockdown by authorities and the public has been credited as a major factor in limiting the number of cases.
From January to April 30, a total of 2,021 people were tested for the virus, with only 19 found to be infected.
As of 5 pm on April 30, some 2,097 people entering Laos had been screened for symptoms of Covid-19.
Of these, 1,289 people entered Laos from Thailand, with most being truck drivers.
A total of 195 people entered Laos from China, of whom the majority were also truck drivers, while 613 truck drivers crossed into Laos from Vietnam. No passengers entered Laos at airports across the country.
At all border crossings, the temperature of each person entering Laos was checked with no one showing signs of fever.
As of April 30, the coronavirus had spread to 210 countries and territories, with at least 3,303,096 confirmed cases globally, including 84,913 new infections. The virus has now claimed 233,777 lives while at least 5,748 people have recovered.
