Association to develop curriculum for private universities

The Private Education Association will develop a curriculum of international standard to build private universities in future.

The Association’s members will cooperate to develop the curriculum that will meet the demands of economic growth and support students entering the job market.

According to the Private Education Association, it has proposed the government should further encourage the development of private schools to strengthen the private education sector and to build up private universities. This will also  develop both the state and private education sectors to meet international standards.

Private education authorities have also proposed to the Ministry of Education and Sports to boost the policy for the private education sector to access financial resources, including soft loans and longer repayment periods.

The association will promote training courses for teachers and focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning to meet regional and international standards.

The association will also boost more school activities such as study tours within the country and aboard, and encourage outstanding students and organise educational exhibition fair every year.

In addition, the association will cooperate with local and overseas development partners, including encouraging its members, teachers and students to exchange experiences with local and foreign organisations.

The Private Education Association reaffirmed its relationship with line ministries, organisations and companies as an opportunity for students to work with these entities after graduation.

The Ministry of Education and Sports has advised state and private school administrators to pay more attention to promoting early childhood education to meet Millennium Development Goals for universal primary education.

The ministry also has developed vocational and higher education, improved legal documents, and codified standards. These steps will help improve the quality and reputation of the higher education sector in Laos and lead to better outcomes for students, institutions and society.

Last year, education authorities awarded institute-status to two private tertiary educational facilities. They can now offer bachelor's and higher level courses.

There are now four state and private education institutions in the country, and more than 800 private colleges, of which 437 are members of the Private Education Consultant Association.
