Champassak promotes tourism programme after Covid-19 outbreak

Champassak province’s Information, Culture and Tourism Department invited 35 tourists from Vientiane to visit Champassak as part of efforts to boost domestic tourism in the aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak.
As part of a programme organised from June 5-8, the tourists from Vientiane visited popular sites in Champassak, including Vat Phou temple in Champassak district and destinations in Khong and Pakxong districts, Champamai newspaper reported on Monday.
The ruins of Vat Phou temple are more than 1,000 years old. An annual festival is held to revere the temple complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tourists can enter the site from 8 am to 5 pm every day to worship the Buddha images and take pictures of the many ancient structures and panoramic views.
The provinces of southern Laos have numerous popular tourist sites, both nature-based and historical. Champassak is one of these provinces and no one should miss a chance to visit this scenic region during their stay in Laos.
The province has 216 officially designated tourist sites, including 116 natural, 60 cultural and 40 historical places of interest, but only 20 have facilities for visitors.
Among the natural wonders are Khonphapheng, Tad Fan and Tad Yeuang waterfalls, and activities for tourists range from adventure treks and ziplining to rest and recuperation in the lap of nature. Visitors can also enjoy produce from the Bolaven Plateau, including its famed coffee.
