Deputy Director of the Public Works and Transport Department of Vientiane, Mr Sivone Subthavy updated Vientiane Times yesterday on the progress of the infrastructure upgrade project in the capital.
“The company is set to complete the surfacing of the concrete road and motorists will be able to travel on it before December,” he said.
“The company will continue other decorative work after the concreting is finished,” Mr Sivone said.
The total project cost was set at 376 billion kip with Phongsubthavy Group Co., Ltd paying the full amount upfront and the government to repay the company.
The project commenced in February 2016 and slowed because the contractor ran into difficultly paying land compensation in some locations, according to the official in charge. It was also delayed following the spread of Covid-19 because the transport of construction equipment had to stop during the lockdown.
The completed road will be 24 metres wide and have six lanes, a median strip, pavements and drainage along with traffic lights installed.
The project will enable more vehicles to bypass the congested city centre and also improve conditions for local vendors and residents. The road links Huayhong-Dongnathong and Nongphaya villages to the Northern No.13 Road, the official said.
