Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Sengdeuane said “By giving students exposure to a real service environment at the Academy Training Hotel and Restaurant, Vientiane Province Technical College will improve the quality of education, as well as ensure that graduates of tourism and hospitality courses acquire the knowledge and skills demanded by the industry.”
The Director of Vientiane Province Technical College, Mr Thonglor Vilayvong, told reporters attending the ceremony “The Academy Training Hotel and Restaurant is expected to support about 90 students a year and provide young people with the opportunity to hone their practical skills in a real work environment.”
“It will run programmes on tourism, hotel services and cooking. The number of courses will most likely increase, along with the number of students.”
Director General of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education, Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr Nouphanh Outsa, said “The establishment of this training facility builds on the Skills for Tourism Project, which is co-financed by the Lao government, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Switzerland, and implemented by the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency (LuxDev).”
The 500,000 Euro project broke ground in June 2019. The building is now fully kitted out and ready to welcome students and visitors taking advantage of the Lao Thiao Laos (Lao Visit Laos) tourism marketing campaign and the soon-to-be-opened expressway.
