Lao People’s Army receives Vietnam’s highest award

The Lao People’s Army has received the Gold Star Order from the Vietnamese government in acknowledgement of its outstanding work to promote comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
In recognition of the achievements of the Lao People’s Army in contributing to the strengthening of friendly relations between the two nations, especially in the military field, the Party and State of Vietnam have bestowed Vietnam’s highest award - the Gold Star Order.
A ceremony to present the Gold Star Order took place at the Ministry of National Defence in Vientiane on Monday, attended by Politburo member and Vice President, Mr Phankham Viphavanh, along with Lao government officials and a high ranking delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence.
The Gold Star Order was presented by Politburo member and Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defence, General Ngo Xuan Lich, and authorised by the Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong.
The Vietnamese Party and State also awarded other orders to 53 units and 35 individuals in the Lao People’s Army.
The awards were conferred on the 70th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Laos (October 30, 1949 -October 30, 2019).
Speaking at the ceremony, General Lich said the conferment of the orders was recognition of the contributions of the Lao People’s Army to fostering Vietnam-Laos friendship, solidarity and cooperation, and deepening the close relations between the two Parties, States, and armies.
Lao Minister of National Defence, General Chansamone Chanyalath, said he highly valued the award from the Party and State of Vietnam to the Lao People’s Army, which reflected the achievements in cooperation between the armies of the two nations over the past 70 years.
General Chansamone also expressed his sincere thanks to the Party, government, army and the Vietnamese people for their support to the Lao people in terms of material assistance including human resource development.
On the same occasion, General Lich, on behalf of the Party and State of Vietnam, presented US$50,000 in relief aid to communities in the central and southern provinces of Laos who were affected by the floods in September.
