Laos continues socio-cultural cooperation with Asean countries

Laos needs to strengthen capacity building in order to further cooperate with Asean nations, particularly in the area of socio-cultural aspect.
Meanwhile Asean nations need to expand cooperation with countries outside the bloc to ensure the socio-cultural pillar is developed as planned.
Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr Savankhone Razmountry highlighted the importance of this pillar for reinforcing Asean cooperation.

The meeting was organised by the Planning and International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in Vientiane on Wednesday.
Attended by representatives from various ministries and organisations, the meeting aimed to disseminate the information about the success of Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).
Mr Savankhone said “we are able to explain the achievements of Asean socio-cultural aspect and the Asean socio-cultural community is the third pillar of the Asean Community and it is very important.”
“We are a member of Asean and we would like to take part in tasks and activities of Asean.”  
The representatives from ministries and organisations presented their accomplishment regarding the cooperation in the work of the Asean socio-cultural pillar.
They also highlighted plans to achieve next year, particularly the plans to attend Asean meetings and other Asean activities.
This year many ministries and organisations are unable to attend the Asean meeting and activities because the pandemic of Covid-19 resulted in travel restrictions and Asean activities.
The ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) is one of the three pillars of ASEAN Community.
