Laos-Timor-Leste mutual support continues to prosper

Mutual support between Laos and Timor-Leste has been reconfirmed with the new diplomatic representative of the young state in Southeast Asia taking up her mission in Laos.
The achievements and promise in the relationship between the two countries were highlighted and conveyed at talks between Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith and Timor-Leste Ambassador Maria Renata Caldas de Jesus, who paid a courtesy visit to him at the ministry office on July 21.
Mr Saleumxay welcomed and congratulated the ambassador in taking up the mission in Laos, and said he highly valued the cooperative ties between the two countries since they established diplomatic relations on July 29, 2002.
He said two sides benefited from the good diplomatic relations, supported each other on regional and global stages, and confirmed the Lao PDR continued to support the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in gaining Asean membership.
The minister highlighted mutual visits which he said contributed to strengthening the relationship between the two countries as well as between the peoples of Laos and Timor-Leste.
He thanked the government and people of Timor-Leste for providing assistance to Laos, especially aid valued at US$750,000 for disaster relief in Attapeu province in 2018.
Minister Saleumxay wished Ambassador Maria Renata Caldas de Jesus success in her diplomatic mission in Laos and said she would be an important link for the gradual strengthening of the relationship and cooperative ties between the two countries.
The ambassador promised to apply her best endeavours in strengthening the friendly and cooperative ties between Timor Leste, and Laos.
