Luxembourg backs building Borikhamxay’s 4 new schools
The government of Luxembourg has granted financial support for the construction of three upper secondary schools and a primary school in Viengthong district of Borikhamxay province.
A signing ceremony to construct the schools was held on Friday between the district’s Education and Sports Office and four local construction companies.
An official from the provincial Education and Sports Department told Vientiane Times on Monday that the government of Luxembourg was supporting the construction project for the four schools.
The schools will be built in Namkang, Nayang, Natho and Nady villages of the district.
Construction for three upper secondary schools is expected to be completed within six months while the primary school will be finished within 90 days.
Construction of the upper secondary school in Nayang village will cost more than 932 million kip, over 823 million kip has been budgeted for the upper secondary school in Namkang village, Natho village upper secondary school will cost 699.9 million kip, and the price tag for Nady village primary school is 327.4 million kip.
Luxembourg’s support will add fuel to the government’s efforts to build more schools in local communities and increase enrollment. In the 2019-2020 academic year, 24 new secondary schools were opened, bringing the total number to 1,816 across the country, according to the Ministry of Education and Sports.
