President calls for strengthening of Youth Union

President Bounnhang Vorachit has advised the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union to improve its organisational structure and to encourage members of youth organisations to become role models in terms of ideology and behaviour.
Mr Bounnhang, who is also Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, gave the advice in his address at the closing ceremony of the fifth plenary meeting of the Youth Union on Wednesday.

He said the Youth Union should enhance its leadership and training education, and attract more young members into its organisations so that the Union represented the entire nation. The president also said youth organisations should be more streamlined and effective.
Enhancement of the quality of Youth Union members through the practice of “four-aspect advancements competition” of ideology, training and studies, organisational activities, and vocational training and job creation was also included in Mr Bounnhang’s advice to the leaders of youth organisations at all levels.
He noted that young people should have great vision for the future and be roles models in every job they undertook. They should also be capable, have specific job skills and foreign language abilities, and skilled in using modern technology.
President Bounnhang stressed that leaders of all youth organisations should lead members in carrying out every national mission in all professional occupations in combination with their political duties, with every youth activity to benefit themselves, the public, and the country. The president also called for the rejuvenation of working methods of Youth Union members and the general public, and said youth leaders should provide assignments to members in accordance with their profession, and that activities should be appropriate to each of the diverse target groups.
Mr Bounnhang added that leaders should build confidence among members by explaining the benefits they would receive from membership.
He wanted youth organisations to abandon the working style of an administrative body and to become true political and social organisations.
The Youth Union should strengthen its role in leading young people and pioneers, he said. He also directed the Youth Union to educate young people about the fine traditions of the nation and Party, build their love of study, work and respect for the law, and clarify the role of families, schools, and youth organisations in the development of the younger generation.
Through youth leaders, President Bounnhang called on young people to be patriots with continuing self-development so that they stayed up-to-date in a rapidly-changing world.
