President commends ministry’s efforts in foreign affairs

President Bounnhang Vorachit urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry on with its significant and outstanding achievements of the past three years and continue to actively implement Party and government policies on diplomatic relations.
The call was made at the 14th Foreign Affairs meeting organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday. The meeting was presided over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, and Lao ambassadors and diplomats of various consulates.
During this meeting, the president urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Lao ambassadors and diplomatic officials posted in different countries

to continue their outstanding work based on the motto - ‘diplomats for prevention and breakthrough’.
President Bounnhang lauded the foreign ministry for their contribution in creating an environment that has facilitated the transformation of the country from being land-locked to being a land-linked nation. He also praised other important initiatives that have enabled Laos to become a power to be reckoned with at regional and international levels.
“The two ultimate goals of the Party and government are to continue with the implementation of policies that safeguard the nation and help develop it with regional and international cooperation and strategic partnering,” he said.
He said the foreign ministry would continue to be ready to accept new opportunities and challenges in the future in line with global trends.
In addition, the foreign ministry will continue to aid the government in studying, analysing and identifying global issues that will be useful for the administration in helping adjust to changes in the years to come.
“In terms of border demarcations, the foreign ministry has also been given the task to cooperate with neighbouring countries to achieve the goal of building a peaceful and economically stable border,” the president said.
Over the past years, the foreign ministry has contributed to building diplomatic relations with almost 150 countries around the world and has helped set up over 40 embassies and consulates in foreign countries.
Laos has successfully organised regional and international meetings and aims to build and expand diplomatic ties with more countries.
At the end of the meeting, Foreign Minister, Saleumxay Kommasith, thanked the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, and President of the Lao PDR, Bounnhang Vorachit, for his suggestions and advice.
Minister Saleumxay said the ministry was committed to carrying out the policies of the Party and the government to build and enhance diplomatic relations with strategic partners, apart from other important tasks assigned by the government.
