| Students  get lessons on study opportunities in Japan
 More and more students are considering studying in  Japan and are interested in obtaining information on ways to achieve this.The Study in Japan Fair 2019  held at the National University of Laos (NUOL) in Vientiane on Wednesday  provided an opportunity for students to learn about Japanese universities and  their study programmes.
 The event benefitted university  lecturers, educators, members of the public and students wanting to enrol in  courses in Japan.
 Those who attended learnt about  the education system in Japan, especially in relation to the universities  represented at the fair.
 Speaking at the event, Deputy  Head of the Foreign Affairs Office at NUOL, Mr Phouvong Phommakong, said that  since joining the Asean Economic Community in 2015, Laos has taken part in many  regional activities. Further integration in the bloc means that education is a  top development priority.
 In the past, the National  University of Laos has received techical assistance and scholarships from  Japan.
 The National University of Laos  has signed MOUs with 14 Japanese universities and institutes on educational  exchange, research activities, exchange of lecturers, cultural exchange and  other activities involving Lao and Japanese students, Mr Phouvong said.
 He hoped that through the fair  cooperation would be maintained in the future to raise the standard of  education in Laos.
 It would also strengthen the  bond of friendship between Lao and Japanese institutions and their students.
 The number of Lao people  graduating from academic institutions in Japan is increasing.
 Representatives of Japanese  universities have met with NUOL staff to plan for increased enrolment of Lao  students.
 Meanwhile Japanese trade and  investment in Laos has skyrocketed and the future prospects look strong.
 The fair was hosted and  organised by NUOL, the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Embassy of Japan,  Japan International Cooperation Agency, Japan Student Services Organisation,  and the Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute.
 The Japanese universities  represented included the prestigious Ritsummeikan Asia Pacific and Okayama,  which both provided useful information.
