Eleven patients are still being treated at the Friendship Hospital in Vientiane and one in Luang Prabang Hospital.
Standing Deputy Head of the National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Associate Prof. Dr Phouthone Muongpak, announced at a press conference in Vientiane on Saturday that the three people at Friendship Hospital have already been discharged after making a full recovery.
He said although there had been no new infections for 12 consecutive days, everyone must continue to comply with the travel restrictions to curb the spread of the virus and prevent a more widespread outbreak.
Dr Phouthone reported that 50 samples were tested for the coronavirus on Thursday, including 26 Lao workers returning from Thailand. All the test results were negative.
While encouraged by the results from the national lockdown, he called on all officials to continue their efforts to apply the effective measures against the virus.
“We still need to enforce the Prime Minister’s Order No. 6, which imposes strict prevention and control measures by the relevant authorities,” he said.
These measures had to be maintained, even though there were positive signs that Laos was on track to contain the disease, he added.
From January up to April 24, a total of 1,661 people were tested, and 19 were found to be infected by the coronavirus.
Between March 9 and April 24, a total of 313 people were monitored for the disease, and all have completed the 14-day quarantine period.
Up to 5 pm on April 24, some 1,750 people entering Laos had been checked for COVID-19.
Of these, 1,002 had crossed the border from Thailand with most being truck drivers bringing goods into the country.
A total of 203 people crossed the Laos-China border with the majority being truck drivers. A total of 545 truck drivers also entered Laos from Vietnam. No passengers came via airports into the country.
At all border crossings, the temperature of each person entering Laos was checked with none showing signs of fever.
As of 6am April 25, the coronavirus had spread to 210 countries and territories, with at least   2,827,435 confirmed cases globally (104,266  new infections). The virus has claimed 196,956   lives while more than 780,083 people have recovered.
