UXO, mine clearance personnel complete training programme

The Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Programme (UXO Lao) and Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) have completed their first exchange training programme.
The four-week programme under South-South Cooperation with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) came to an end last week.
The programme began this year and continues until 2023.
The first exchange programme focused on human resource development and was carried out over four weeks, in two sessions. The first took place in Cambodia and the second in Laos.
There were 10 participants, including seven from UXO Lao and three from CMAC. They are core personnel working in human resource management in each organisation.
The participants worked closely with their assigned counterparts in order to learn from each other’s experiences of working on mine/UXO actions.
Topics discussed included staff contract and salary scales, human resource database management, policies on outstanding persons and measures against violators, life insurance, and other important areas.
At the closing ceremony last week, the representatives of each side shared what they had learned from each other during the four-week training session, which was also attended by the National Programme Director of UXO Lao, Mr Bounphamith Somvichith, and Chief Representative of the JICA Laos Office, Mr Yoshiharu Yoneyama.
