Director General of the Vientiane City Operation and Management Service, Mr Bounchan Keosithamma reported the cleaning and decoration work aimed to set an example for government offices and businesses to follow.
He encouraged the public and various sectors to contribute to the cleanup and to adorn the capital’s roads with national and Party flags, especially Souphanouvong, Lane Xang, Kaysone Phomvihane, Samsenthai and Setthathilath Roads.
The work is being carried out ahead of the upcoming 65th anniversary of the foundation of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
Vientiane City Operation and Management Service staff is also clearing drains in the city with the current focus on Hongsaeng channel to help prevent flooding in the rainy season.

The main objective of the project is to improve flood prevention measures and clean drains along 10 main roads, as well as the Hongsaeng Channel and the waterway connecting to the Huay Mark Hiew Canal.
The project is being rolled out in the districts of Chanthabouly, Xaysettha, Sikhottabong, Sisattanak, Xaythany and Hadxaifong from February to December this year. The department is making improvements to eight major roads, namely Kaysone Phomvihane, Nongbone, Samsenthai, Setthathirath, Chao Fa Ngum, Souphanouvong, Lane Xang, Thadeua and some other streets that link to main roads.
At present workers are painting road markings along Kaysone Phomvihane and Lane Xang Roads. They started the work at the end of February and expect to finish in May, with Lao Marker Co., Ltd. carrying out the project. The upgrade is being financed by 7.4 billion kip from the Road Fund.
