Leaders pay homage to revolutionary heroes

Party and state leaders on Tuesday paid homage to revolutionary leaders and fighters who lost their lives in the struggle, as part of events to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) on December 2.
Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President Bounnhang Vorachit led the central committee in laying a wreath at the Unknown Soldier Monument in Vientiane.
Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith led the government cabinet, while President of the National Assembly Mrs Pany Yathotou led a parliamentary delegation attending the wreath-laying.
Vientiane Mayor Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune headed the capital’s leaders attending the ceremony.
Also present on the occasion were leading officials from mass organisations, scholars, and officials from the Ministry of National Defence and Ministry of Public Security.
The wreaths were laid to revere the many unknown soldiers and people who sacrificed their lives in the revolution, which ultimately resulted in the proclamation of the Lao PDR on December 2, 1975.
On the same day, leaders also laid a wreath at the national revolutionary soldiers’ cemetery at Km 24.
Leaders also placed baskets of flowers at the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum to pay tribute to and acknowledge the virtues of the late President Kaysone, who spearheaded the revolution. This year marks the 100th anniversary of his birth.
