PM advises Luang Prabang on election of Party committee

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has stressed the need for more young people to become successors to the current Party leadership and help guide the country’s development.
Mr Thongloun made the point when talking to leaders and members of the local Party committee in Luang Prabang province on September 7 at a meeting to canvass for new Party personnel.
“The structure should comprise young people, middle-aged people, and older citizens under the rules. Surely, the number of young and middle-aged people should be in the majority,” he said.

Luang Prabang is preparing for the province’s upcoming eighth Party Congress.
Mr Thongloun asked provincial Party leaders to fulfil the requirements for succession, saying that if personnel development did not follow the rules it would affect the country’s management in the future.
Those attending the canvassing meeting represented the Party units they were from. Mr Thongloun called on them to honour the trust placed in them by other members by considering the collective interest, the interests of the province and the interests of the Party, but not their own interests.
Party members who are qualified and capable, have strong attributes and sound political views should be elected to lead the province towards the goals that have been set, Mr Thongloun said, referring to the requirements of the Politburo, Party Central Committee and the sub-committee responsible for personnel selection.
Mr Thongloun, who is a Politburo member, said every Party member could fully utilise his or her democratic right given by the Politburo in the vote, and no one could intervene.
He also noted that Party members could exercise their democratic right to follow the Party’s direction, adhere to the renovation policy, and preserve the fruits of the revolution.
Referring to the difficult situations of recent years, Mr Thongloun said no one wanted those events to happen and it would be a test. “Luang Prabang province has to step forward. We, the Party members, have to elect a new Party committee that can lead the province in overcoming difficulties and maintaining its status and popularity within the global community,” he added.
While in the province, Mr Thongloun and his delegation visited Luang Prabang Conch Cement Co., Ltd. on September 6. The Conch Group successfully began the first production line under Phase 1 of its Luang Prabang project in June, with a daily output of 2,500 tonnes of clinker. Conch Cement has more than 160 subsidiaries in 21 provinces, prefectures, and autonomous regions in China, as well as in Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Russia, and other countries within the Belt and Road Initiative.
The production lines all use advanced technology, with low energy consumption, high automation level, high labour productivity, and sound environmental protection.
