- Construction of city’s tallest building to resume
Construction of Latsavong Plaza, which houses a five-star shopping mall and a hotel and is said to be the tallest building in Laos, is to resume after the contractor ran into financial difficulties in 2016 and work came to a halt.
Director General of the Department of Economy, Ministry of National Defence, Colonel Siphonexay Khamthongveun, said Latsavong Plaza was a business partnership between the Ministry of National Defence and a Chinese company, for which a contract was signed and construction began in late 2013....More >>>

Persons with disabilities given opportunities for income generation
Persons with disabilities and their households in Xieng Khuang and Savannakhet provinces are set to benefit from income generating activities, thanks to support from the Okard project.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Okard Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) project has provided 520 million kip to carry out various income generating activities. ....More >>>

New website provides information about HIV, sexually transmitted diseases
The Community Health and Inclusion Association and the Ministry of Health have launched a website ( to provide information about HIV prevention and testing, and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Earthquakes strike 20 villages in Phongsaly
Two earthquakes measuring 5.7 and 4.6 on the Richter scale caused damage to houses, temples and schools in 20 villages of Yot-Ou district, Phongsaly province, when tremors struck the district on the night of December 24.
The cost of the damage was estimated at more than 1.4 billion kip, but no one was injured or killed, according to the Socio-Economic Daily newspaper. ...More >>>

- New Covid cases drop to 547, three more people die
There was a significant drop in the number of new Covid cases reported on Monday, with just 547 new cases recorded, while three more people died from Covid-related illnesses.
The new cases were detected among 3,250 samples tested over the previous 24 hours.
